Finally congratulations to people living in Kano, Lagos, Kaduna, and Abuja as Federal Government plans to begin the first phase of mass distribution of prepaid meters in these states.
Electricity has not been distributed to my area for the past seven days yet outrageous bills will be given to us at the end of the month. I couldn't hide my joy when I read the announcement made by President Muhammadu Buhari, that he's ready to end estimated bills in all forms in Nigeria and we will only pay for the electricity that we use.
He revealed that they have released funds to Electricity Distribution companies to provide one million meters that would be distributed for free in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Kaduna state in the first phase. Which means that other states will eventually benefit from this programme:
This initiative called presidential mass metering is looking at providing 6.5 million meters which will affect close to 30 million customers, The juiciest part of this program is that all the materials that will be used for the manufacturing of these meters shall be sourced for in the country. Therefore, more jobs are expected to be created.
If you remember, president Muhammadu Buhari promised to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, I believe this initiative is like taking a step closer to fulfilling that promise.
